Our industry has more data available than ever before. We can track engagement rates, video views, website traffic, email opens, and social media growth. These metrics are valuable, but they can also create a false sense of success if we mistake visibility for impact.
A video might receive thousands of views without meaningfully influencing how families understand our school. Meanwhile, a personal story shared with a relatively small audience might inspire a prospective parent, reconnect an alumnus, or motivate a donor to invest in the school’s mission.
Independent school marketing requires us to think beyond traditional engagement metrics. Are we strengthening trust? Helping families understand our distinctives? Deepening relationships with alumni? Supporting enrollment and philanthropy? Reinforcing institutional culture? The real question isn’t simply how many people saw our content, but whether our communication moved people toward a deeper connection with our school’s mission.
